In-Town (U4/U6/G2) Soccer

In-town soccer is a non-pressure, non-results oriented, instructional form of soccer whose purpose is to provide a FUN atmosphere and a positive playing experience for the children participating. All participants win when Coaches, Parents, and Players enjoy the game.

LYSC In-Town Registration Information (2024-2025)

U4: 6 weeks (Sunday, 11am start)
Eligible Birthdates: 9/1/2020-8/31/2021

U5 & U6 (both under U6): 8 weeks (Sunday, 12:15pm start)

U5 Birthdates: 9/1/2019-8/31/2020 (Pre-K)
U6 Birthdates: 9/1/2018-8/31/2019 (Kindergarten)

* If a parent is interested in coaching, every effort will be made to place siblings together if requested, even if in different age groups.
* Requests for siblings (in different age groups) to play on the same team will be addressed on an individual basis.

G2: 8 weeks (Saturday mornings, time TBD)
G2 Ages: Players in 1st and 2nd Grade

LYSC G2 Rules for Play

G2 soccer is a non-pressure, non-results orientated, instructional form of soccer whose purpose is to provide a FUN atmosphere and a positive playing experience for the children participating. All participants win when Coaches, Parents, Referees, and Players enjoy the game.

  • Sunday sessions consist of approximately 20 minutes of practice and 55 minutes of an intra-league game.
  • All players shall receive equal playing time.
  • Games are approximately 2 25 minute halves with a 5 minute break between halves.
  • G2 age group shall play Five vs. Five (5 v 5) including a goalie. Goalies should not play in goal for any longer than half of a half before rotating.
  • All teams (including coaches and players) must remain on one side of the soccer field. Coaches will be allowed to enter the field space the first 3 games of the season to provide teaching assistance (for throw-ins, corner kicks and goal kicks especially), but should not remain on the field. Spectators including parents shall remain on the opposite side of the field.
  • The ball size that will be used will be a number 3.
  • We will observe FIFA rules for throw-ins. For example, when a ball goes out of bounds, the player will throw the ball in keeping 2 feet on the ground when the ball is released. A player who takes a throw-in or a kick-off improperly will be given several additional tries.
  • Goal kicks:
    • all opponents must be at least 5-6 yards from the ball
    • all opponents must remain outside the penalty area until the ball is in play
    • the ball is in play when it is kicked directly out of the penalty area
  • Corner Kicks:
    • A corner kick is awarded when the whole of the ball passes over the goal line, either on the ground or in the air, having last touched a player of the defending team, and a goal is not scored.
    • The ball must be placed inside the corner arc nearest to the point where the ball crossed the goal line.
    • If corner flag posts exist, the corner flag post must not be moved.
    • Opponents must remain at least 5-6 yards from the corner arc until the ball is in play The ball must be kicked by a player of the attacking team.
    • The ball is in play when it is kicked and moves The kicker should not play the ball again until it has touched another player.
  • Free kicks may be awarded for hand balls and rough play. The ball is placed at the location where the penalty occurred and must be touched by another player before entering the goal.
  • No direct penalty kicks
  • No off-sides
  • Substitutions may be made anytime the ball goes out of play, regardless of which team is throwing the ball in.
