Intro

Thanks for agreeing to coach this year in the Lynnfield Youth Soccer program. Without you we wouldn't be able to put together such a fun experience for the kids. We encourage you to explore the other resources in the Coaches section of the LYSC web site to learn more and help you in your role as a youth soccer coach. We'll continue to build out the information here, so check back to see what's new.

1. Practice Plans - Detailed, age-appropriate information specifically for coaches. Developed by the NE Revolution & MA Youth Soccer.  Also includes G4 and G6 formattions and The Coaching Manual - A comprehensive site with videos, practices plans, progressions and more.
2. Coaching Classes - Both live and online courses for soccer coaches. FULLY reimbursed by LYSC for successful completion.

Coach Development
Philosophically, LYSC understands the importance of having good, strong coaches, who are well trained and have the proper perspective (on soccer and life) to best teach our young players how to play soccer.

LYSC pays for all its coaches to get licenses. There are many levels of licensing in soccer, and we encourage our coaches to obtain their licenses to the level they are coaching. See the "Coaching Classes" section of the site for more information.

Additionally, LYSC contracts with Aztec/Skillzcheck to train our players and coaches during the season. The Aztec develop practice plans and conduct training for our G2, G4, G6, & G8 players. They also  holds specialty clinics, such as goal keeper clinics, and conduct the independent evaluations (tryouts) for LYSC.

On top of this, we are also utilizing the HS Girls and Boys coaches to run clinics in the spring and summer. We also look to other town programs and local soccer clubs,  for best practices and to hire independent coaches for clinincs.

LYSC coaches are selected based on the following criteria:

  • Past experience
  • License level
  • Coaching style
  • Demeanor
  • Ability to teach age-level appropriate techniques and tactics
  • Ability to have fun while challenging players
  • Timely return of player evaluation
  • Attendance at coaches’ development clinics
  • Willingness to bring his/her team to tournaments
  • Willingness to coach indoor soccer
